DescriptionHarris graduated from the University of Florida in 1986 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Agriculture. In 1989 he received his J.D. degree from the University of Miami and in 1990 he graduated with an LL.M. in Taxation from Washington University in St. Louis. He is a Florida Bar Board Certified Tax Lawyer and is a past chair of the Florida Bar Tax Certification Committee. For over ten years Harris has served as a Director of the Tax Section of the Florida Bar and is currently its Chair-elect. He will serve as Chair of the Tax Section beginning July 1, 2021. Mr. Bonnette is a member of the Jacksonville Bar Association and is a past chair of its Tax Section. He also is the author of the articles: The IRS and Their Pesky Summonses: A Primer on Enforcement and Common Defense s, The Florida Bar Journal (Dec. 2016, Vol. 90, No. 10) and The IRS Will Absolutely, Positively Not Pay Your Attorneys’ Fees (Or Will They?) , The Florida Bar Journal (May 2010, Vol. 84, No. 5). His practice is concentrated in all areas of Federal tax controversies including tax deficiency litigation in U.S. Tax Court; refund, summons enforcement and defense of FBAR penalty litigation in U.S. District Court; and all trust and estate disputes including will and trust contests, estate and trust litigation, and estate and trust administration in Florida state courts. He is a member of the bars of Florida, United States Tax Court, United States District Court for the Northern, Middle, and Southern Districts of Florida, the United States Court of Federal Claims and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit. After earning his LL.M. degree, he became an attorney with Internal Revenue Service Chief Counsel’s Office from 1990 to 1995, first in Austin, Texas and then in Jacksonville, Florida. Harris lives in Jacksonville with his wife, Linda.
