DescriptionScott M. Kyrouac joined the firm in 1985 following graduation from the Indiana University School of Law -Bloomington. He completed his undergraduate work at the University of Illinois, College of Commerce, from which he graduated with High Honors in 1982 with a B.S. in Business Administration. Scott’s practice areas include alternative dispute resolution, commercial litigation, employment law, health law, personal injury, insurance defense, medical malpractice defense, products liability, asbestos litigation, toxic torts, trucking and transportation and municipal. Scott has served as both primary counsel and as local counsel in many complex litigated matters in both State and Federal Courts. Scott has extensive experience in trying bench and jury trials throughout south central Indiana. Scott also enjoys resolving legal disputes as a registered mediator.In 2011, Scott was elected as President of the Defense Trial Counsel of Indiana. He has served as astatewide director representing the defense bar for 12 years. Scott was recognized as Indiana Defense Lawyer of the Year in 2008. He is a member of the Defense Research Institute and holds the rank of Advocate from the American Board of Trial Advocates. Recently, Scott served as secretary of ABOTA in 2012 and was also selected as an invited member of Association of Defense Trial Attorneys by his peers. Scott’s service to the legal profession has been recognized by Martindale Hubbell with their AV rating and by AVVO with their highest ranking. Scott is a member of the Terre Haute Defense Research Institute, Indiana State, and American Bar Associations. In 2012, Scott was elected as DRI State Representative for Indiana for the 2012 to 2015 term. Scott has authored numerous articles for legal professionals on topics including Subrogation and Civility, Crashworthiness Revisited, Spoliation of Evidence and The Art of Being Local Counsel published in the Indiana Lawyer. Scott has also authored Bad Faith Litigation published by Indiana Continuing Legal Education in 2003, and Medical Malpractice and Ethics both published by National Business Institute in 2009. A law journal article authored by Scott, Indiana Law Concerning Statute of Repose, Comparative Fault (Apportionment/Nonparty Defense) and Punitive Damages As It May Apply to Asbestos Claims was published in the Indiana Civil Litigation Review in 2009. Scott has chaired numerous Continuing Legal Education Seminars including Implications of Stanley v. Walker The New Collateral Source Rule in 2009 and Expert Testimony in 2010. Scott has recently authored and lectured on many contemporary legal and evidentary issues for NBI, DTCI and DRI. Scott was born in Kankakee, Illinois, but grew up in Naperville where he won the 1977 Naperville Red & White Award for outstanding leadership both on and off the athletic field. Since moving to Terre Haute in 1985, Scott calls Terre Haute home, staying active by coaching baseball, basketball, and soccer. He is active in St. Joseph University Parish, Miss Softball America, Muscular Dystrophy Association, Terre Haute South Rotary Club, Boys and Girls Club and Vigo County Youth Soccer League.Scott gives time back to his law school by annually serving as a judge of Indiana University’s Moot Court Competition. In 2010, Scott chaired the Indiana University School of Law-Bloomington (Maurer School of Law) 25th Class Reunion. Scott serves as pro bono counsel for the Terre Haute Humane Society, the Clay County Humane Society, and St. Joseph University Parish and has been recognized for his efforts. While Scott is dedicated to his profession, he makes it a priority to spend quality time with his children.
