| Description | Sara L. Schwartzman, Partner at FLAG, is an experienced family law litigator who has dedicated her professional career to helping those individuals and families who are going through the very difficult, emotional and financially draining process of divorce and child custody cases. Sara is a strong advocate for her clients, educating them as to the legal process and their options, helping them navigate through various family law issues, assisting them with achieving their goals and empowering her clients so that they complete the legal process with a strong foundation for their future well-being. Sara also mediates divorce, custody/access and support cases with the goal of assisting parties in reaching an amicable resolution without the emotional and financial toll that litigation can take, and serves as a court-appointed attorney representing children in contested custody cases. Sara received her bachelor’s degree, cum laude, from The George Washington University with Honors in women’s studies and received the Women’s Studies Scholarship Award. Sara then attended law school, receiving her Juris Doctor from The University of Maryland School of Law. While in law school, Sara was a Rose Zetzer Women, Leadership and Equality Fellow and the recipient of the Maryland Public Interest Law Project grant. Sara successfully completed a mediation clinic, resulting in her becoming a certified mediator. Sara’s legal education allows her to combine the positive attributes of mediation and collaboration with litigation. After law school, Sara completed a clerkship in the Circuit Court for Baltimore County with the Honorable Ruth Ann Jakubowski. Since 2007, Sara has worked as an attorney at private family law firms with a focus on family law litigation and as a mediator of family law cases. Sara also performs pro bono work for nonprofit organizations to provide legal representation to those without the means to obtain an attorney. Sara’s courtroom experience, mediation work and established relationships with colleagues and the judiciary allow her to be a zealous advocate both within and outside of the courtroom. She is a strong voice for her clients, an empathetic listener to their needs and an empowering force in their lives. Sara shares FLAG’s philosophy that family law cases involving children should be child-centered, focusing on goals that will strengthen the family unit and allowing clients and their children to leave the legal process empowered with hope for a promising future. Sara lives in Baltimore with her husband, children, dog and cat.
