| Description | As a trial lawyer Scott concentrates heavily in the areas of personal injury, catastrophic injury and wrongful death. At the inception of his career Scott spent years practicing in the field of insurance defense litigation, initially on behalf of a major U.S. corporation and later on behalf of a number of major national insurance companies. The types of cases Scott defended included, but was not limited to: motor vehicle collisions, assaults, pharmaceutical error and asbestos defense. The asbestos defense work was particularly complex and involved the defense of various companies that had distributed asbestos containing products during the 1930s through 1970s. This was mass tort litigation with specialized calendars and specially assigned judges in both the Circuit Court for Baltimore City, which handled all cases arising in the State of Maryland, and the Superior Court of the District of Columbia. Scott was a key player in this litigation often taking lead in depositions that involved in excess of thirty attorneys and in cases for which many millions of dollars were at stake. While working as an insurance defense litigator Scott handled hundreds of cases and became intimately familiar with the decision making processes involved in evaluating and handling personal injury claims from the perspective of major insurance carriers. Upon leaving the field of insurance defense litigation more than a decade ago Scott became a trial lawyer, committing himself solely to advancing the cause of those injured by the negligence of others. During that time Scott has litigated a wide range of complex case types to include trucking accidents, wrongful death claims, motorcycle accidents, sexual assaults, dog bite cases, fire cases, premises liability cases based upon a landlord’s failure to provide adequate security in high crime apartment complexes, serious motor vehicle collisions and many more. Scott has obtained significant results by way of settlements and judgments on behalf of his clients including multi-seven figure results that have substantially changed and contributed to the quality of life of his clients. Scott is an attorney committed taking on even the most complex, challenging and novel of cases where there is an opportunity to make life better for his clients and over the course of his career has recovered many millions of dollars for those clients. Scott, a lifelong resident of Maryland and the District of Columbia, graduated from Towson State University in Maryland and the Catholic University of America, Columbus School of Law, in the District of Columbia. While at Catholic Scott served as treasurer of the Black Law Students Association and was a member of the Thurgood Marshall Inn of Court. Scott is admitted to Maryland Bar, the District of Columbia Bar, the United States District Court for the District of Maryland and the United States District Court for the District of Columbia. He is also a member of the District of Columbia Trial Lawyers Association, Prince George’s County Bar Association and National Trial Lawyers Association. Scott resides in Prince George’s County with his wife, two children and grandson. |
