DescriptionCheryl’s practice focuses on a wide range of general litigation matters, including business disputes and minority shareholder issues. She has years of experience in representing members of the mortgage banking industry and assists clients with various mortgage and title issues. Cheryl defends mortgagees and mortgage servicers from a variety of claims, including wrongful foreclosure, predatory lending, and FCRA, TILA, FDCPA, and RESPA violations. She represents an Alabama electric cooperative with respect to its buildout of a major fiber network in Northwest Alabama. Why did you become an attorney? My father, Wyatt Howell, is an attorney, and I grew up being inspired (and am still inspired) by his work. He was, and still is, very passionate about serving his clients, helping those in need, and serving the community. The energy he exhibits in the practice of law and in his efforts to help his clients continues to inspire me to work hard and give my best efforts to help those who trust me to provide them with legal counsel. What are you most proud of in your practice? I am proud of the times in which I have been able to help clients achieve major goals, such as my work with Sirote’s Broadband Team. We have assisted Tombigbee Electric Cooperative in its buildout of a world-class, high-speed fiber to the home internet system in Northwest Alabama. I am also very grateful for the opportunity to have journeyed through difficult situations with many litigation clients, in which we were able to mitigate-and at times eliminate-certain risks of financial exposure to their businesses, and concluded in a manner that put them in a much better position than when we began. What do you like to do in your spare time? I enjoy spending time with my husband and two young sons, ages 7 and 4. As a family, we enjoy supporting our church, youth sports, and local theatre and, in the fall, watching college football.
