Professional Background As lead counsel, Cameron has represented plaintiffs and defendants in high stakes intellectual property and complex litigation matters, with combined amounts in controversy exceeding $1.1 billion. Exemplary venues where he has led trial teams include the US District Courts for the Eastern District of Virginia, Eastern District of Texas, District of Delaware, District of New Jersey, Central, Eastern and Northern Districts of California, Northern District of Illinois and Western District of Washington. In intellectual property matters, Cameron supervises and coordinates firm IP teams. The IPLL team-oriented approach provides clients significant strategic and tactical IP advantage. Under his direction, IPLL’s systemic efforts include high-level strategy, offense/defense licensing, IP portfolio management and development, technology transactions, infringement, validity and freedom-to-operate opinions, patent and trademark prosecution, copyright registration, trademark policing and trade secret compliance. In the business and IP transactions areas, for nearly three decades his practice has focused on business-oriented technology solutions. He advises companies in creating, protecting, acquiring, developing, and commercializing technology, as well as in distributing, servicing, and marketing products and services. Cameron also represents clients on complex business transactions such as joint ventures, distribution agreements, strategic alliances, research and development, electronic commerce, complex procurement, endorsement, outsourcing, and the general management and disposition of IP. An experienced corporate attorney, he also counsels clients on financing, mergers and acquisitions, sales of assets, venture capital investments, and other general corporate matters. Mr. Tousi has been a member of the Private Equity & Venture Capital Committee of the ABA Business Law Section. Over his extensive career, Cameron has held partner and senior counsel positions with leading national general practice firms. He was previously Director of Intellectual Property for the Telecommunications Business of Samsung Electronics. In this capacity, he traveled to Europe and Asia on multiple occasions, where he negotiated licenses with the world’s leading telecommunications firms and managed numerous related litigations. He co-founded and managed corporate strategy and legal affairs for Bang Holdings. He helped launch new marketing and sponsorship technologies growing the company from seed financing to multimillion revenues in less than two years. He also launched Bang’s offshore technology affiliate in Kochi, India. He has also served as a Patent Examiner for the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, where he determined patentability for applications submitted to data processing control systems and digital data error correction for computer systems. Prior to his legal career, Mr. Tousi was a consultant with the global firm Booz Allen Hamilton, where he analyzed and mathematically modeled switched voice services provided by long distance companies (AT&T, MCI, Sprint) and Regional Bell Operating Companies (RBOCs) following the divestiture of AT&T. Mr. Tousi was also a software engineer for IBM. Prior to the convergence of voice and data communications, he architected and developed telecommunications applications to implement data protocols at IBM’s telecommunications facilities in Research Triangle Park, North Carolina. Representative Matters Cameron has represented over four hundred business entities, from Fortune 100 to early stage startups, across the gamut of industries. Notable industries include high techs, green businesses, life sciences, government contractors and nanotechnology. Analog Devices, Inc., Cirrus Logic, Inc., Conexant Systems, Inc., Digi International Inc., Marvell Semiconductor, Inc., Micrel, Inc., Mindspeed Technologies, Inc., Netronome Systems, Inc. and Zoran Corp., 2:11-cv-19 (E.D. Tex.). Currently represent plaintiff in asserting seminal semiconductor technology patents directed to memory management used through the industry. Agere Systems Guardian Corp. v. Proxim, Inc. (D. Del.). Represented plaintiff in infringement action concerning patents related to wireless technology under IEEE 802.11 standard. Asia Vital Components Co., Ltd. v. Asetek Danmark A/S, 1:2014-cv-01293 (E.D. Va. Sep. 30, 2014); Asia Vital Components Co., Ltd. v. Asetek Danmark A/S, 837 F.3d 1249 (Fed. Cir. 2016); Asia Vital Components Co., Ltd. v. Asetek Danmark A/S, 5:2016-cv-07160 (C.D. Cal. Dec. 16, 2016). Represented declaratory judgment plaintiff in a case originally brought in the U.S. district court for the Eastern District of Virginia. The case was dismissed for lack of subject matter jurisdiction. We appealed the case to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, which in a precedential opinion regarding proper subject matter jurisdiction reversed and remanded the case to the Eastern District of Virginia on our client’s behalf. Upon remand, the suit was transferred to the Central District of California for continuation of the case. Atwater Partners of Texas LLC v. AT&T, Inc. et al. (E.D. Tex.). Represented defendants Comtrend Corporation and Consolidated Communications Holdings in a patent infringement suit involving alleged infringement of modem related telecommunications technologies. Hearthware, Inc. v. E. Mishan & Sons, Inc. (N.D. Ill.). Represented plaintiff in action involving copyright infringement, trademark infringement, false association and designation of origin, false advertising, unfair competition and deceptive trade practices. In re KATZ Interactive Call Processing Patent Litigation (C.D. Cal.). Formerly represented defendants in a multi-district case alleging infringement of several patents related to telephony and call processing operations. Morningware, Inc v. Hearthware Home Products, Inc. (N.D. Ill.). Represented defendant/counterclaimant in action involving alleged infringement of patents directed to cookware technology, trade dress infringement, unfair competition and product disparagement under the Lanham Act, common law unfair competition, commercial disparagement and deceptive trade practices under state law. Network Gateway Solutions, LLC v. Adtran, Inc. et al. (D. Del.). Represented defendants Media5 Corporation and Mediatrix Telecom, Inc., leading Voice-over-IP (VoIP) telecommunications equipment manufacturers, in a matter alleging infringement of plaintiff’s digital network access server patent. Network Managing Solutions, LLC v. AT&T Mobility, 1:16-cv-00295-RGA (D. Del. May 3, 2017); Network Managing Solutions, LLC v. Sprint Corporation et al., 1:16-cv-00296-RGA (D. Del. May 3, 2017); Network Managing Solutions, LLC v. T-Mobile USA, Inc, 1:16-cv-00297-RGA (D. Del. May 3, 2017); Network Managing Solutions, LLC v. United States Cellular Corporation, 1:16-cv-00298-RGA (D. Del. May 3, 2017); Network Managing Solutions, LLC v. Cellco Partnership d/b/a Verizon Wireless, 1:16-cv-00299-RGA (D. Del. May 3, 2017). Represented plaintiff owner of 3GPP network alarm management and lawful intercept patents. The patents were asserted in separate enforcement actions before the US District Court for the District of Delaware against world’s five leading telecommunications carrier companies. North Star Innovations Inc. v. Fujitsu Ltd. and Fujitsu America, Inc. (D. Del.). Successfully represented plaintiff against defendant Fujitsu in a patent infringement action filed in the U.S. District Court for the District of Delaware, leading to a global settlement transaction benefitting our client North Star Innovations. North Star Innovations Inc. v. Nanya Technology Corp. U.S.A. and Nanya Technology Corp. (D. Del.); North Star Innovations Inc. v. Nanya Technology Corp. U.S.A. and Nanya Technology Corp. (C.D. Cal.). Successfully represented plaintiff against defendant Nanya in patent infringement actions filed federal district courts, both in Delaware and the Central District of California, leading to a global settlement deal benefitting our client North Star Innovations; ancillary matters included handling two inter partes review proceedings filed by defendant, which were also concluded by the global settlement. Real Bonus Ltd. v. Pier 1 Imports, Inc., No. 6:14-cv-00878-MHS (E.D. Tex. Nov. 19, 2014). Represented plaintiff in patent infringement action related to LED technology, leading to settlement agreement. Texas Instruments Inc. v. Powerchip Semiconductor Corp. (S.D. N.Y.). Represented Powerchip Semiconductor, one of the world’s leading semiconductor manufacturers, as defendant in a $150 million dollar dispute concerning a mutual patent license agreement with plaintiff. Telarix v. Vero Systems/TEOCO (E.D. Va.). Represented computer software company as defendant in a patent suit involving computer software relating to optimal cost routing in telecommunication networks. UTStarcom, Inc. v. Starent Networks Corp. (N.D. Ill.). Formerly represented plaintiff UTStarcom, a global leader in the manufacture of IP-based solutions and end-to-end telecommunications networking in alleged misappropriation of trade secrets, copyright infringement, and patent infringement relating to geographically mapped telephone routing methods and systems. Wireless Recognition Technologies LLC v. Nokia Corporation et al. (E.D. Tex.); Wireless Recognition Technologies LLC v. A9.com, Inc. et al. (E.D. Tex.). Currently represent plaintiff in four separate infringement actions against leading defendants in a matter regarding infringement of patents directed to mobile recognition of objects and documents.
