| Description | I am a criminal defense attorney. I help solve problems for my clients and their families, fixing challenging situations under difficult circumstances. My job is to defend people who have been charged with crimes in state and federal courts across North Carolina and throughout the country – and it’s a job I love. After spending several years as a prosecutor, I decided to start my own law firm in 2007, and I’ve been passionately defending the accused ever since.Each day, every day, I work tirelessly to master my craft and to better serve the people I represent.My job performance directly affects peoples’ lives and I take pride in that. I am passionate about this work and wouldn’t trade it for anything else.Service to the CommunityIn 2014, I was appointed by North Carolina Gov. Pat McCrory to serve on his Crime Commission, Juvenile Justice Planning Committee, working to help ensure fair treatment and justice for North Carolina’s children and teens.Most recently, in 2016, I was appointed by Gov. McCrory to serve on the North Carolina State Ethics Commission, to assist in the investigation of complaints made against state lawmakers, state officials, judges, district attorneys, and other covered persons accused of ethics violations.Specific Examples of Success Not Guilty verdict on a charge of first-degree murder involving the client’s alleged role in a drive-by shooting. Three years of probation (the client faced up to 10 years in prison) on federal charges involving trafficking in counterfeit goods. 10 out of 11 counts dismissed in federal case involving receipt and possession of child pornography. Dismissal of a DWI after a man ignored a checkpoint and blew a .15 after arrest. Misdemeanor probation for a man facing up to 25 years in prison for First Degree Statutory Sex Offense. Dismissal of statutory sex offense charge for a man facing over 30 years in prison after being accused by his 6-year-old daughter of forcing her to perform a sex act. Dismissal of drug trafficking charges after challenge of initial stop for woman facing 7 years in prison for cocaine offenses. Reduction from felony to misdemeanor charge with only probation for allegedly possessing a gun during a robbery.
