| Description | Mrs. Matos obtained her bachelor’s degree in psychology in 1998, magna cum laude, and her Juris Doctor in 1992, both from the University of Puerto Rico. Mrs. Matos also obtained an LL.M. in 1996 from The George Washington University, in consortium with Georgetown University, in Washington, D.C. Mrs. Matos was admitted to the Puerto Rico bar in 1992 and in 1995 to the U.S. District Court for the District of Puerto Rico, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the First Circuit and the U.S. Supreme Court.She started her legal career in 1992, as law clerk to the Hon. Hiram Sánchez MartÃnez of the Puerto Rico Court of Appeals and for several months in 1994 was assigned to the Secretariat of the Judicial Conference of the Puerto Rico Supreme Court. After completing her LL.M she was recruited in 1995 as an associate at a major San Juan law firm, joining their Labor and Employment Law Department. In 1997 Mrs. Matos started her own legal practice, specializing in labor and employment law matters, general litigation and contract law and in 2009 she joined Del Toro & Santana as Counsel.Mrs. Matos is a member of the Bar Association of Puerto Rico and of the Federal Bar Association. She is the immediate past president of the Association of Labor Relations Practitioners. She was Adjunct Professor of Law at the University of Puerto Rico and continues to lecture as a frequent speaker for organizations such as the Puerto Rico Chamber of Commerce, the Society for Human Resources Management (SHRM). She also provides in-house training for human resources personnel of the firm’s corporate clients. Besides her native Spanish language, she speaks English fluently. Her main practice area is Labor and Employment Law and Litigation. She has served as Law Clerk to Hon. Hiram Sanchez Martinez, Puerto Rico Court of Appeals, 1992-1994; Adjunct Professor, University of Puerto Rico School of Law, 1998-2000; Vice-President, The Association of Labor Relations Practitioners, 2003-2004; President-Elect, 2012. |
