Description | Mike Browning was a founding partner of Porzak Browning & Bushong LLP, and was previously a partner at Holme Roberts & Owen. His practice focuses on real estate and water rights, especially residential real estate development, and high-end farms and ranches. Mike is a native of Montana and graduated from the University of Montana with a B.A. in Liberal Arts in 1974. He then ventured to the East Coast and received his law degree from Yale Law School in 1977. Returning to the Rockies, he has practiced real estate and water law ever since. He was editor of water law articles in The Colorado Lawyer for fifteen years and is the author himself of numerous publications.Mike also has extensive experience in conservation easements and is the President of the Colorado Water Trust, a Colorado non-profit entity that promotes the protection of Colorado’s waterways. Water in the West is scarce and essential. Even before statehood, the territory of Colorado adopted the ‘prior appropriations doctrine’ to allocate and administer this vital resource.
