Description | I insist that my clients and, by extension I, be treated fairly. No one likes to be bullied. Someone with far more insight and experience once said you never know how things are going to end up. When I left Lakewood to go off to college in the Fall of 1963, I never thought that a course of events would bring me back to Ocean County, yet they did and here I am and I could not be more pleased. I could not imagine a better place to be and practice law. I am of counsel to the firm. Being of counsel is somewhere in between the full time practice of law and retirement. My practice was one of general law in Tuckerton for in excess of 45 years. Toward the end of 2016, I realized I would like to observe and, in some small way, participate in the development of my five grandchildren without leaving the profession. The fit here was a perfect one as I knew, liked and respected them all as colleagues and often adversaries. In fact, it goes back even further. The late Richard Sacks and I played football at Lakewood High. Ed Dimon and I started law school at Boston College together, being a few of the New Jersey contingent. While a law clerk, I watched John Doyle work on behalf of the Point Pleasant Borough Board of Education. My practice included a fair amount of personal injury, commercial and chancery trial work. In law school, however, I had the privilege of taking the Dean’s course on municipal law and, as a young attorney, had an opportunity to be involved in municipal zoning and planning. To my surprise, it was an area not commonly understood and, thanks to the Dean, I appreciated its concepts. As a result, I developed a practice in land use having appeared before zoning boards, planning boards and governing bodies in Ocean County and beyond. I have mediated disputes by both judicial appointment and private engagement. I have been a recurring lecturer on land use for the New Jersey Planning Officials, taught in the graduate school of education at Georgian Court University and have spoken before organizations on various aspects of law. |
