DescriptionMr. Bentz was born in Salem, Oregon on January 12, 1952 and joined Yturri Rose LLP in 1977. He is married to Dr. Lindsay Norman (Veterinarian). They have two children, Allison and Scott. His grandparents and parents owned and operated cattle ranches in Southeastern Oregon. His father and mother raised him and his five younger brothers and one older sister on a cattle ranch located fifty miles east of Burns, Oregon. Three of his brothers remain active in cattle ranching with ranches located near Crane, Drewsey and Juntura, Oregon. His family ranch held water rights from wells and different streams and creeks. His personal understanding of these irrigations systems has been invaluable in his water law practice. The transition of ranch properties and ranch businesses from one generation to another has also been and remains of great interest to him. He has worked with many ranch families in designing methods and organizations which address the needs of those remaining on the land while maintaining relationships with family members who leave the family business. His practice extends throughout the eastern half of the State of Oregon and involves ranch sales, water disputes, refinancing, public land matters, complex estate planning and family ranch and farm transition to younger generations. He realizes through personal experience that the future of ranching and farming will involve more and more interaction and entanglement with organizations and governments anxious to restrict, change or simply take lands and rights developed, protected and maintained by ranchers and farmers over the last hundred years. This knowledge facilitates this firm’s ability to help ranchers, farmers and small businesses anticipate, recognize, meet and ultimately resolve these current and future challenges.Member, 1988-1996 and Chairman, 1994-1996, Oregon Water Resources Commission. Member, Board of Directors: Oregon Historical Society, 2003-; Eastern Oregon University Foundation, 2001-; Director, Project Dove (Domestic Violence Eliminated), 2002-2006.
