DescriptionChristopher McCormick was admitted to the Connecticut Bar on December 12, 1985 and the United States District Court for the District of Connecticut on February 10, 1986. Chris is the managing member attorney of Steier & McCormick, LLC with an office conveniently located in the center of West Hartford Connecticut. Chris is an attorney in good standing in Connecticut and the current emphasis of his practice is real estate law, bankruptcy, business law and foreclosure defense and workouts. Chris has practiced real estate law for over thirty years including both residential and commercial closings. Chris has conducted seminars on a variety of real estate topics for realtors. Chris has represented numerous mortgage lenders for his clients’ closings through the years. Chris has extensive debtor-creditor law experience in the areas of bankruptcy and foreclosure defense law. Chris authored a Chapter for the 2013 edition of a Book titled Chapter 7 Consumer Bankruptcy Strategies which provides practice pointers for bankruptcy attorneys as part of the Inside the Minds series of books by leading lawyers published by Aspatore Publishing. Chris has appeared on Fox News at 10 on Channel 61 providing commentary as a bankruptcy attorney on topics including the connection between sports gambling and personal bankruptcy and the abusive practices of some consumer credit counseling and debt management companies. In recognition of his experience and knowledge as a Connecticut foreclosure defense attorney, Chris has been quoted in a New York Times article about foreclosure and solar panel companies. Chris received his undergraduate degree Cum Laude from Duke University in Durham, North Carolina and his J.D. Degree from the University of Connecticut School of Law in Hartford, Connecticut. While attending law school, Chris was a law clerk for the Division of Special Revenue for the State of Connecticut and drafted regulations for the lottery and other legalized gambling operations in the State of Connecticut. He also worked as a law clerk for the law firm of Keith & Aparo located in Hartford, Connecticut that specialized in real estate law. In 1985, Chris joined the law firm of Gross, Hyde & Williams, P.C. in Hartford, Connecticut as an associate. During his tenure at this firm, Chris worked in a variety of areas of law including personal injury and construction litigation, real estate, corporate and employment law and estate planning. In 1986, Chris joined the firm of Reiner & Reiner as an associate and his practice initially focused on real estate, personal injury and collection law. When the real estate market soured in the late 1980s the main emphasis of his practice shifted to residential foreclosures and he started the residential foreclosure department at that firm. In 1990, Chris left Reiner & Reiner to join the firm to join the firm of Mayo, Gilligan & Zito, LLC and to continue with his practice in the areas of foreclosure and workouts, collections, real estate and creditor’s rights in bankruptcy. Since 1995 Chris has been a member of the law firm of Steier & McCormick, LLC. Chris has been a past member of the American and Connecticut Trial Lawyers Association, Commercial Law League of America American Bankruptcy Institute , and the Connecticut Mortgage Bankers Association. Chris is currently a member of the Consumer Bankruptcy Roundtable and the National Association of Consumer Bankruptcy Attorneys. Chris is a member of the Connecticut Bar Association and a Director of Lawyers Concerned for Lawyers CT, Inc., an organization devoted to impaired attorneys suffering from addiction, gambling and mental health problems. Chris is listed on the Law Works for People- Pro Bono Honor Roll. Chris currently lives in West Hartford with his wife and his son. He is an active tennis player and swimmer and a member of the Hartford Tennis Club, Bloomfield Tennis Club and Cornerstone Aquatic Center.
