| Description | Carrie Tortora is a Board-Certified Family Law Specialist with a background in accounting with nearly a decade of experience providing legal representation and support to divorcing individuals and their families. Carrie’s unique skill set provides expertise in complex financial cases, such as valuing and dividing business interests, analyzing property distribution, and financial support issues. The divorce process can be one of the most daunting challenges people face. Carrie is attentive to her clients’ needs, serving as a staunch advocate from start to finish. Carrie helps clients navigate this difficult time in their lives, offering open and honest communication, which is essential to clients in making decisions necessary to resolve their case. Carrie’s extensive trial experience serves her clients well in court, and that experience also assists clients in settling their disputes without litigation. Carrie has great working relationships with highly competent real estate appraisers and brokers, business appraisers, financial planners, psychiatrists and psychologists, and mediators to help her clients resolve their cases in and out of court. Born and raised in southern Louisiana, Carrie graduated summa cum laude with an accounting degree from Louisiana State University. She moved to North Carolina to attend law school and graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with honors. Before joining Gailor Hunt, Carrie served as a law clerk to the Honorable Sanford L. Steelman, Jr. of the North Carolina Court of Appeals. Her experience at the Court of Appeals provided her with in-depth knowledge of family law, as well as insight into the appellate practice. Carrie is a member of the North Carolina State Bar, the Wake County Bar, and the North Carolina Bar Association. Carrie was named a Rising Star by North Carolina Super Lawyers Magazine in 2013, 2016 and 2017. She served on the board of directors of the Women’s Center of Wake County, a nonprofit organization committed to preventing and ending homelessness in our community, from 2013 to 2017. Carrie is married to Frank Tortora, and they have two daughters, Giuliana and Cecilia, and two beagles, Jackson and Shelby.
